1st Birthday Celebrations by Membathisi Mtsi

Pinnacle College Rynfield’s birthday could not have come at a better time.
The 6th of March was a day to remember as the school celebrated its first birthday in the presence of all the Students, Staff and honorable guests - including Mike Aitken who is the Managing Director of the Pinnacle College Brand. The lovely ceremony was highlighted in all the wonderful new school traditions which made it all the more exciting for the Staff and Students.

Students and Staff spent the week hastily preparing, in anticipation for an exciting first school birthday. We truly owe the smooth procession of the day to all the hard work, practice and planning. The opening speech from Mr. Gaffney, the Pinnacle College Rynfield Executive Headmaster, commenced the ceremony which took place on an elevated ground overlooking the school buildings, newly built sports facilities and the Bull-frog Pan. Upon interview, Carina Botha, the schools architect, expressed the difficulty she experienced in drawing the new designs because of the landscapes varying levels. She then used the varying landscape levels as her inspiration for our multi-tiered school.

Serenaded by beautifully played bagpipes, the school showcased its three newly found traditions, namely, the planting of a tree by the Grade 1 Pupils, the Grade 8 Time Capsule burial and the revealing and raising of the intricately designed 2020 Matric School flag. These traditions are what make one proud to be part of this school.

Mr. Mike Aiken and Mr. Christo De Wit, the Chief Operating Officer of over 23 of Advtech Schools, as well as a Student from Grades 0, 3, 7 and 12 assisted in the cutting of the ribbon and ‘blowing out the candles’ on Pinnacle College's first birthday, along with revealing the school’s grand opening plaque. In closing, Mr. Aiken shared a few words of gratitude and Mr. Gaffney shared an inspiring piece to the students about influencing and helping one another to grow and succeed.

The day was filled with nothing but jubilation and, in true birthday style, all the students were surprised with beautifully decorated cookies. A wonderful end to everyone's week. And most importantly, the quote to inspire us for the year: Roots to remind you where you come from, wings to show you what you can become - 2020 Matrics.
